We invite artists to participate in an exhibition presented as part of the Kraków Celtic Festival 2026. This project aims to bring together contemporary art, literature, language, and folk traditions associated with Celtic cultures and Kraków’s local heritage.
Submissions are due by August 16, 2026.
The exhibition’s starting point is the question of the boundaries between the visual arts, text, craft, and folklore—do such boundaries truly exist, and if so, how can they be crossed today?
We are particularly interested in works that explore the relationship between image and word: those that use text as an artistic medium, or are inspired by literature, poetry, language, or the culture of writing. Another important area of reflection is the presence of Celtic cultures—both historical and contemporary—and their connections to Kraków, the Lesser Poland region, and the broader European context.
We invite you to submit works addressing, among other things, the following topics:
– the relationship between visual art and text, literature, and poetry,
– Celtic languages and their visual form
– illustrations inspired by the literature, poetry, or mythology of Celtic countries and regions
– Celtic culture and mythology
– the contemporary presence of Celtic cultures in Poland and Kraków
– the dialogue between tradition and the present
– the connections between craftsmanship, folk art, and contemporary art
– the migration of cultural motifs, symbols, and stories
– the shared roots of European visual traditions
Both existing works and projects created specifically for the exhibition are welcome.
We are particularly interested in works that lie at the intersection of contemporary art and traditional practices—those that utilize materials, techniques, or narrative methods derived from crafts and folk culture, while also addressing contemporary themes and forms of expression.
The exhibition is intended to be a space for dialogue between the past and the present, between local culture and Celtic cultures, and between different ways of telling stories through images, objects, and words.
