Basilisk are a duo of balfolk blasphemers – Mike Bee on banjo and Rory Scammell on electro-synth hurdy-gurdy, synthesisers and looping. They play a a twisted mix of tunes from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Brittany, Galicia, Hungary, America, and beyond, with influences from everywhere else.
Formed in 2026 after several years of impromptu jams around the pubs of Edinburgh, their sound is driven by the Balfolk Boombox, Rory’s own one-of-a-kind creation, and Mike’s tenor banjo fed through a distortion pedal. Expect jigs, reels, mazurkas, muiñeiras and more, plus a few surprises along the way!
